Angelique Kidjo – Born Under Punches

From her re-imagination of the Talking Heads album, “Remain In Light”

To be frank, I’m not sure if I should post this here or not… Tell me in the comments, please! Yep, I know, she’s a great African Artist. But, should we draw a line where music is considered “African” or not? I can’t answer this. Music has always been about exchanges and inspiration and collaboration and transmigration of sounds and so on…

Kidjo’s always been an eclectic singer…

1st off this sounds amazing! Maybe like it better than the original. Just wow. Can’t wait to listen to this in full. 2nd I think it’s important to note where African music influence is heard anywhere so it can be known how much it influences western music. Something I’m not sure the general American public is aware of at least. Whether it’s Vampire Weekend, Paul Simon, Talking Heads, David Byrne or Crystal Fighters etc.. Considering how much African music influenced the Talking Heads with their rhythms then it’s only right. 3rd, Angelique is giving this an even more African spin than it already had. But that’s just my 2 cents. I am an American so there’s that haha.
