I think I said this before – one of the best shows I have ever seen, not only African music, but of all music events I have ever been to – it was magic!
It was in 2010 I think at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures), the best place in Berlin for what is called “world music”. They get federal money and thus can invite musicians from all over the world just for a show there and don’t have to see that the budget is balanced so they can show artists that other agencies can’t book as it would be too expensive. Unfortunately, they get challanged for this a lot in neoliberal times and their budget is always threatened to be cut, which is a shame. I didn’t only see fantastic shows there, but also talked to some of the musicians and I know what it means for some of them to be able to play outside their local scenes and showcase their music in a place like Berlin.

Was it when they toured last year or way before? I saw them in Zanzibar in 2011 and met a few of them in Cotonou.

Quite interesting – that would be a nice place for some of the artists I work with to play… will look how to contact them… and propose bands…
