Originally, the record Horizonte brought together artists from Lisbon’s African scene (under the name Bandé-Gamboa), to celebrate gumbé and funaná. These 2 genres form the musical heritage of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, repressed during the Portuguese colonial era.
The entire album was dedicated to Amilcar Cabral, founder of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde. He was assassinated in 1973.
I produced this Brass Band track in 2010 and it was remixed some time later by an American DJ… Interesting sound…
